The highest number of inhabitant per 1 km² – more than 200 is in the area from Milan, Venice to Bologna, Ancona on the East, from Genoa to Florence on the West, around Rome, Naples, Bari and Tarento on the North, Palermo, Catania and Messina in Sicily. The rural population in Italy represent 31 % of inhabitants, urban population is 63.5 %; Naples has 1.2 %, Rome 2.8 % and Milan 1.5 %.
